FCOLOR UV Ink Product Knowledge: Models, Parameters, and Field Fixes
Buying UV ink is not like buying paper. The same printer can produce crisp, flexible prints one month and misted, brittle ones the next, and the difference almost always traces back to the ink formula, the printhead it was tuned for, and the room temperature it is running in. This guide collects what the FCOLOR technical desk tells buyers every day: how UV ink viscosity and temperature interact, how to pick between soft, neutral and hard formulas, what our model numbers actually mean, and how to fix the problems that show up most often in the field.
UV Ink Fundamentals: Viscosity, Temperature, and Odor Ratings
Every UV ink spec sheet starts with viscosity, and for good reason. Industrial printheads such as Ricoh and Konica typically operate at a working viscosity of 15–25 cps. Ink formulations are adjusted into the 16–35 cps band to match the head, and printheads usually carry their own temperature control set between 42–45 °C. When that temperature drifts, viscosity drifts with it, and jetting stability goes first. If a printer suddenly misbehaves in the afternoon, check the head temperature before blaming the ink.
Odor is graded on a scale: grade 0 means no smell at all, grades 2–3 are a light odor and the recommended range for most commercial work, and anything above grade 3 is a pungent, irritating smell that no buyer should accept for indoor products. Ask for the odor grade in writing before you order — it is the fastest way to filter out low-grade formulas.
Soft, Neutral, or Hard UV Ink: Matching the Formula to the Material
UV ink is divided into three physical families, and choosing the wrong one is the most common rookie mistake we see:
- Soft (flexible) UV ink — excellent stretch and bending performance for leather, TPU and soft films. The trade-off is weaker scratch resistance.
- Neutral UV ink — the balanced all-rounder for acrylic, PVC and KT board, printing without primer.
- Hard UV ink — a high-hardness ink layer that resists scraping, built for glass, ceramic tile, metal and other rigid substrates.
Match the ink family to the substrate first, then compare model numbers. A hard ink on leather will crack on the first fold; a soft ink on tile will scratch off under a fingernail.
FCOLOR UV Ink for Industrial Printheads: UV 8047
For Ricoh and Konica class machines, our workhorse is UV 8047, a neutral formula benchmarked against Korean IT ink with a formulation similarity above 85%. In production it keeps excellent idle fluidity — the head does not clog during standby — and it supports cylindrical printing as well as height-difference printing across 1.5–3 cm of substrate drop. The red channel runs slightly different from the original; an ICC curve brings it back in line, which is standard practice for any compatible ink.
FCOLOR UV Ink for EPSON I3200 and XP600 Printers
The EPSON-head segment is where most small shops live, and it is also where model choice matters most. Here is the honest breakdown from our technical desk:

Between 8014 and 8209, pick by product: vivid retail graphics favor 8014, while items that get handled and flexed favor 8209 because the print holds its edges.
UV Ink for Crystal Labels and 3D Raised Transfers
Crystal label (UV DTF) production is a system, not just ink, and two consumable decisions decide your yield:
A/B film selection. Premium film carries high tack and heat resistance and survives multiple passes through the roller; cheap film has low tack, poor release, and fails under heat. When customers compare quotes purely on ink price, the film is usually where the difference hides.
Glue management. The adhesive layer is sensitive to ambient temperature, so we split it into a winter version for workshops below 20 °C and a summer version above 20 °C. Running the wrong season causes glue overflow or weak tack — both look like an ink problem but are not.
3D raised transfers and hot stamping. 3D labels are built by stacking white ink at 2–3× normal volume until the relief forms. For gilding effects, our foiling varnish works on Ricoh and I3200 heads, prints sharp line detail, and bonds strongly — but it demands disciplined head maintenance, covered below.
UV Ink Troubleshooting: Five Questions from the Field
Why does the printer mist or spray ink during printing?
First check ink viscosity — high-viscosity models such as UV 8010 mist when the environment does not match. Then try adjusting head voltage or head temperature. If misting persists, the waveform settings need a professional engineer; do not keep trial-and-error printing, you will waste ink and risk the head.
A customer wants a vivid lemon yellow — can we just fix it in ICC?
Our standard yellow is an earthy, cost-efficient shade. ICC adjustment can push it toward lemon, but for genuinely bright lemon yellow, order a spot color. It costs more and it is the only way to get there.
Crystal labels are lifting at the edges or trapping bubbles after application. What went wrong?
Edge lifting usually means weak A-film tack or excessive ink shrinkage — switch to a higher-grade A film. Bubbles are almost always application technique: press from one side across to the other, smoothing as you go, instead of pressing the whole label at once.
Why does UV 8047 red look slightly different from the original Korean IT ink?
8047 is a high-fidelity compatible formula; raw material differences make the red marginally different out of the box. A color curve calibration in post brings it to 95%+ of the original.
How should the foiling varnish printhead be maintained?
Every shutdown, confirm no varnish residue remains on the head surface. For extended downtime, close the heating and circulation systems. Clean only with our dedicated cleaning solution — never alcohol, which damages the head.
