Performance Comparison of Pigment Ink and Dye Ink

Nov 24 , 2020

I don't know if it is because of the publicity of the Pigment Bottle Ink Manufacturer or because the pigment ink is more expensive than the dye ink. Many users think that pigment ink is better than dye ink when choosing ink to add ink to their expensive ink cartridges. In fact, pigment ink and dye ink have their own strengths, and it cannot be said that which is better than the other, but for users who use print head cartridges, adding dye ink is a more suitable choice.

why? First of all, we need to distinguish what is pigment ink and what is dye ink.

Pigment Ink is a collection of molecules, its smallest unit is much larger than the molecular diameter of dye ink, ranging from 50-200 nanometers, usually in the form of opaque liquid.

Pigment Ink

Pigment ink is more vivid than powder ink. Of course, this is just a vivid statement and is not accurate enough. To be precise, it grinds solid pigments into very fine particles and dissolves them in a special water solvent. It is a suspension or semi-solution, which has the same properties as the pigments used in printing and dyeing clothes.

Contrary to the principle that the Dye Ink penetrates into the medium to form color, it develops color by attaching the color material to the surface of the medium. Therefore, under the influence of external corrosion, only the outermost molecular structure will be destroyed first, and the inner structure is not easy to be destroyed. After the outer molecules are destroyed, the phenomenon such as fading will appear.

From the perspective of printing color, due to the polymer of the outer layer of the pigment ink, it will not be able to show the color and vividness of the color well. Even if it is printed on paper with flat surface such as glossy paper, it cannot print shiny. The image comes, which is why things generally printed with pigment ink are not shiny.
